The 166th charity wine auction of the Hospices de Beaune, held with Sotheby's under the Halles de Beaune: barrels of the estate's Burgundy cuvées.
The Vente des Vins des Hospices de Beaune is the annual auction of the wines of the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune, the 60-hectare Burgundy estate owned by the Hospices Civils de Beaune. The 166th sale takes place on Sunday 15 November 2026 at 14:30 under the Halles de Beaune, with Sotheby's.
The wines of the new vintage are sold en primeur, by the barrel. Proceeds fund the upkeep of the Hôtel-Dieu and the estate, the modernisation of the hospital, including the new Beaune hospital building due in early 2028. Each year, one barrel, the Pièce de Charité, is auctioned for the benefit of one or more charities.
Sale by the barrel: each lot is a "pièce", the equivalent of 288 bottles (24 cases of 12), which buyers then entrust to a Burgundy négociant-éleveur for 12 to 24 months of ageing before bottling.
The Pièce de Charité: a barrel, usually a grand cru from the vintage, sold for the benefit of the charities selected for the year.
Four ways to bid: in the sale room, by phone, online through a Sotheby's account, or with a written order executed by the auctioneer. Registration with Sotheby's is required before the sale.
Catalogue: the list of cuvées and the sale order are published by the Domaine ahead of the sale.
